Hen and stag coach hire from Birmingham is a private vehicle with a driver for a group that is going out together, usually with more than one pickup and a late finish. The right vehicle is the one that fits the people who will actually get on, plus bags if you are staying overnight. It is rarely the vehicle that fits the WhatsApp group.
Book it on our hen and stag party transport page. This article is the planning. Weddings are a different job, with a timed ceremony, and they are covered in the wedding transport guide.
12-seater, 16-seater or a midi coach?
| People travelling | Vehicle | When it is the better Birmingham choice |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 8 | MPV or small minibus | A house pickup on a tight street |
| 9 to 12 | 12-seater minibus | One activity, overnight bags, a trailer if you have props or golf clubs |
| 13 to 16 | 16-seater minibus | The usual stag or hen day from one side of the city |
| 17 to 32 | Midi coach | Two friendship groups merging, or a joint hen and family meal |
| More than 32 | Standard coach | Only if you truly have the numbers. Empty seats still cost driver hours. |
A midi coach is more comfortable on a run to Liverpool, Manchester or Bristol. A minibus is easier for Jewellery Quarter streets, canal-side pubs and houses without a coach-sized turning circle. If you are between sizes, ask for both prices. The minibus with a driver guide covers the smaller end. Cost follows hours and miles, which is set out in the price guide.
Pickups, activities and the order of the day
List the day in order before you ask for a price.
- First pickup, with a postcode.
- Second pickup only if it is on the way. A third house in the opposite direction is a different price.
- Each activity: pottery, go-karting, a brewery, a football game. Include the time you must arrive, not just the name.
- The meal or the last venue.
- Where people are sleeping, if that is not the same as the first pickup.
Drivers cannot invent the itinerary in traffic while eight people change their minds. A written order, even a rough one, is what we quote. If the afternoon activity might move, say so. A quote with one spare hour is cheaper to agree now than a wait on the day that was never hired.
Overnight bags and trailers
A day in Birmingham is coats and a change of shoes. A weekend in Liverpool is a bag each. A 12-seater filled with 12 people and 12 large cases often needs a trailer or a larger vehicle. Props, fancy dress on hangers, and a speaker are luggage. Mention them.
We will say if a trailer is suitable for the vehicle. Not every minibus can tow, and a trailer changes where we can stop.
Alcohol and late returns
Alcohol on board is not permitted unless we have agreed it in writing beforehand. That surprises groups who think a hen coach comes with a bar. It does not. Smoking and vaping are prohibited. A driver may refuse a passenger who is aggressive, abusive or so intoxicated they are a risk, and the hire is still payable.
If the night ends after midnight, the return has to fit a legal driver's day. Tell us the latest drop-off you need. A 9am start in Sutton Coldfield and a 2am finish in Solihull may need a different start time or a second driver. Agree drop-offs in advance. Door-to-door for 14 addresses after a night out is how the last person gets home at 4am.
What to send
- Date and whether anyone is travelling the day before.
- Passenger numbers and pickup postcodes.
- The activity timetable.
- Overnight or day bags.
- The finish time you want.

A day that can actually be quoted
This is a shape that works, not a script. Pickup in Sutton Coldfield at 11am, one friend in Erdington on the way, an activity in the Jewellery Quarter that needs you there at 12.30pm, a meal in town, and a return to the same two points by midnight. That is a minibus job with a known finish. The version that cannot be quoted properly is "we'll see where we end up, maybe Liverpool". If Liverpool is possible, ask for that price as well. It is a different driver's day from an afternoon in Birmingham, and it is cheaper to know before anyone pays a deposit on an activity.
Joint groups, where two friendship groups meet at a station, should still name one organiser. We need one person who can say the restaurant has moved, not a group chat we are not in.
Hen and stag hire FAQs
Can we drink on the minibus?
Only if it is agreed in writing before the day. It is not included as standard. People who are a safety risk can be refused boarding.
Do you collect from more than one house?
Yes. Two pickups on a sensible route are normal. A tour of Birmingham before you have started the day adds time and cost. Send the postcodes and we will say if the order works.
Is a 12-seater enough for a weekend away?
For the seats, yes, up to 12 people. For the bags, maybe not. Tell us about luggage before you assume the 12-seater is cheaper than a 16-seater with a proper boot.
Can you do Liverpool or Manchester for the night?
Yes. Those are among the most common runs from Birmingham. Allow around two hours to Liverpool and a similar sort of time to Manchester, plus loading. The city route guide explains private hire versus a scheduled coach.
What if the restaurant overruns?
Call the number on the booking. Waiting beyond the hired time is chargeable and has to be agreed. It also has to be legal for the driver.
