The Challenge
The HS2 Bromford Tunnel project — stretching 3.5 miles between Warwickshire and Birmingham — is one of the most complex civil engineering undertakings in the UK. Delivered by Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV), the site at Washwood Heath spans 65 hectares (equivalent to 100 football pitches) and employs a diverse workforce of over 250 people, including engineering apprentices, steel welders, steel fixers and joiners.
Coordinating the safe and reliable movement of this workforce — across a live, high-security construction environment — required a transport partner with precision, flexibility and proven large-scale capability. Standard transport solutions were inadequate for the pace and complexity of site operations.
Our Solution
Bouden Coach Travel was engaged to deliver dedicated shuttle services for the BBV workforce throughout the Bromford Tunnel project. Operating on-site during a critical period of construction activity, our team facilitated the safe and seamless movement of personnel around the site — enabling the project to maintain momentum and operational efficiency at every stage.
Our coaches were present on-site during the historic breakthrough of TBM "Mary Ann" — the tunnel boring machine that completed the first bore of the Bromford Tunnel — a milestone moment for HS2 and for Birmingham's infrastructure legacy.
With a fleet capable of scaling to demand and drivers experienced in secure, time-sensitive site environments, Bouden ensured that workforce logistics were never a constraint on project delivery.
We are honoured to have played a part in this monumental achievement. Our team's dedication to ensuring seamless transportation for the workforce and visitors has been unwavering, and we look forward to continuing our support as the HS2 project progresses.
